Peter Obi has cautioned against premature politicking ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying there is no guarantee he or anyone else will still be alive by then.
Speaking during a recent public engagement, Obi said the uncertainty of life should compel political leaders to focus on addressing Nigeria's pressing challenges rather than engaging in early campaigns for future elections.
The former presidential candidate stressed that no individual can predict the future or be certain of living to witness the next general elections, noting that governance should take precedence over political calculations.
According to him, leaders should channel their energy towards improving the economy, tackling insecurity, creating jobs and responding to the immediate needs of Nigerians instead of concentrating on the 2027 electoral contest.
Obi maintained that leadership should be judged by the positive impact it makes on the lives of citizens, insisting that public office is a responsibility rooted in service, accountability and measurable results.
His remarks have sparked widespread public reactions, with many interpreting the statement as a reminder of life's uncertainty and a call on political leaders to prioritise effective governance over early electioneering.
