Kidnappers Demand Fresh ₦260m After Collecting ₦40m Ransom in Dollars

The family of the kidnapped Permanent Commissioner of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), Barrister Ahmed Mohammed, has disclosed that his abductors are demanding an additional ₦260 million despite already receiving ₦40 million in ransom converted to United States dollars.

His wife, Hajiya Rahmat Ahmed, revealed that the kidnappers initially rejected the ₦40 million raised by the family, insisting that the money be converted into dollars before they would accept it.

Barrister Mohammed was abducted on September 29, 2025, along the New Bussa–Mokwa Road while travelling from New Bussa to Minna in Niger State.

Speaking on the family's ordeal, Rahmat said the initial ransom was raised through contributions from relatives, friends, colleagues and her husband's personal savings before it was eventually paid to the abductors in December 2025 after being converted to foreign currency.

She expressed shock that despite collecting the money, the kidnappers have continued to hold her husband in captivity and are now demanding an additional ₦260 million for his release.

According to her, the family has exhausted every available means to secure his freedom and is unable to meet the fresh demand.

"We raised and paid ₦40 million with support from family members, friends, colleagues and his personal savings. They refused to collect it until it was converted to dollars. Even after receiving it, they are now demanding another ₦260 million, and we simply do not know where to get such an amount," she lamented.

Rahmat described her husband as the sole provider for a large extended family, noting that his biological children, several orphaned children under his care and many other dependants have been left in severe hardship since his abduction.

She added that the prolonged captivity has placed enormous emotional and financial strain on the family, disrupting the education of the children and worsening their living conditions as they continue to appeal for help to secure his safe release.
