The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread cloudiness, thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday, advising residents to prepare for varying weather conditions.
In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency predicted mostly sunny skies with patches of clouds across the northern region on Monday morning, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Kebbi and Kaduna states.
NiMet said the weather would become more active later in the day, with moderate thunderstorms and rainfall expected across Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.
For the North-Central region, the agency forecast morning thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Plateau, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory. Moderate thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in the afternoon and evening across Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and the FCT.
In the southern region, moderate rainfall is expected during the morning in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Abia states before extending across most parts of the region later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet projected early morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Taraba, Kebbi and Katsina states, with more widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall likely across the northern states as the day progresses.
The agency advised residents, motorists and relevant authorities to remain alert, as thunderstorms and heavy rainfall could lead to reduced visibility, flash flooding in vulnerable areas and disruptions to outdoor activities over the three-day forecast period.
