A three-storey building collapsed on Thursday in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, triggering panic among residents and raising fears of possible casualties.
The structure reportedly gave way around 11:40 a.m., sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood and disrupting normal activities as residents and passers-by rushed to the scene.
Witnesses said the collapse occurred suddenly, forcing people in nearby buildings to flee for safety amid concerns over further structural failures.
As rescue efforts commenced, the number of casualties remained unclear, with reports indicating that some victims might still be trapped beneath the rubble.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident and said emergency responders had begun rescue operations at the site.
Authorities are continuing search and rescue efforts while investigations into the cause of the collapse are expected to begin.
