Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has forwarded the 2026โ2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to the Rivers State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, announced the receipt of the document during an emergency plenary session held on Thursday.
Following the presentation, lawmakers deferred deliberations on the expenditure framework to a later date and adjourned sitting without fixing an immediate date for debate.
The development marks a significant engagement between the executive and legislative arms of government, as the Assembly had not convened for regular legislative business in the last four months.
The House last met in February 2026 when it screened and confirmed commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Fubara before adjourning indefinitely.
Prior to that session, lawmakers had sat on January 8, 2026, and subsequently didn't reconvene on its scheduled resumption date of February 15.
The submission of the medium-term expenditure framework is a key step in the state's budget planning process, providing the fiscal projections and policy direction that will guide the preparation of future budgets.
