The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has initiated moves to strengthen Nigeria\'s counter-terrorism investigation capacity through the proposed domestication of a specialized counter-terrorism training programme at the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC).
The initiative was discussed during a strategic meeting held on June 18, 2026, between the Nigeria Police Force, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigeria Police Academy, and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
The meeting focused on integrating the Specialized Training Programme on Counter-Terrorism Investigation into the academic and institutional framework of the Nigeria Police Academy to enhance the professional competence of law enforcement personnel in combating terrorism and related security threats.
Also present at the meeting were AIG Patrick Atayero and AIG Uche Ifeanyi Henry, alongside representatives of the partner institutions.
The engagement highlighted the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and its international and local partners to strengthening investigative capabilities, deepening institutional collaboration, and developing sustainable counter-terrorism education and training structures within the country\'s policing system.
The proposed programme is expected to equip future law enforcement officers with advanced knowledge and practical skills required to effectively investigate and respond to evolving terrorism-related challenges across Nigeria.
