President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to actively support security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality by providing timely intelligence and reporting suspicious activities.
In a message posted on his verified X handle, @officiaLABAT, on Monday, the President described the battle against insecurity as a collective national responsibility that requires the cooperation of all citizens.
According to him, defeating terrorism cannot be left solely to the military and security agencies, stressing that public participation remains crucial to achieving lasting peace and security across the country.
“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty. Citizens must support our security forces by providing timely, useful information. When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” Tinubu stated.
The President commended members of the Armed Forces and other security personnel for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in protecting the country from various security threats.
He noted that troops continue to serve as a protective shield for millions of Nigerians despite operating under difficult and dangerous conditions across forests, highways, creeks, remote communities and other challenging terrains.
“In the forests, on the roads, at forward operating bases, in the air, creeks, and across difficult terrains, you carry the burden of national protection so that millions of Nigerians can sleep, work, worship, farm, trade and raise their children in hope,” he said.
Tinubu acknowledged the enormous sacrifices made by security operatives, describing the ongoing fight against criminal elements as demanding and often accompanied by pain, pressure and loss.
He assured personnel that their courage, dedication and service to the nation have not gone unnoticed, adding that the government and the people remain grateful for their commitment.
The President also extended his appreciation beyond the military to officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, intelligence agencies and local security formations working to keep communities safe.
He further recognised the sacrifices made by the families of service members, noting that many endure prolonged separations, anxiety and emotional hardship as a result of their loved ones’ commitment to national duty.
Paying tribute to fallen heroes, Tinubu said the nation would continue to honour those who lost their lives in defence of Nigeria’s unity and security.
He stated that although their names may not always receive public attention, their sacrifices remain evident in the lives protected, communities rescued and stability preserved across the country.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism and criminality, insisting that violent groups would not be allowed to dictate Nigeria’s future or undermine its national identity.
“Nigeria will not surrender to fear. We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers or violent extremists to define who we are as a people. Their violence is not our identity. Their hatred does not represent Nigerians of any faith, creed or community,” he declared.
Tinubu concluded by expressing gratitude to troops and other frontline personnel, offering prayers for their safety and continued success in defending the nation.
The President’s message comes amid intensified military and security operations against insurgents, bandits and criminal networks operating in different parts of the country.
