In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, the Army expressed concern over a publication by Sahara Reporters titled, “Retired Nigerian Army General Arrested in Abuja After Criticising Senate President Akpabio Over 2027 Comments.”

According to the statement, the description of Gololo as a retired Army General is “false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of the public.”

The Nigerian Army clarified that Gololo is neither a serving nor retired personnel of the force and urged the public to disregard the attribution.

The Army also called on media organisations to exercise due diligence and uphold the principles of accuracy, fairness, and responsible journalism, especially on issues relating to the Armed Forces and national institutions.

It further urged relevant media platforms to correct the misrepresentation to prevent the spread of misinformation capable of undermining public trust and institutional integrity.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and transparency, the Nigerian Army stated that it remains focused on defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
