Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged irregularities in the conduct of the party’s governorship primary election in Nasarawa State.

Adamu’s resignation comes days after he lost the APC governorship ticket to Aliyu Wadada.

The former police boss formally submitted his resignation letter on Monday to party executives in Makama Ward, Lafia, stating that recent developments within the APC had made it difficult for him to continue pursuing his political ambitions under the party’s platform.

According to him, the governorship primary failed to reflect the principles of internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity expected in a democratic political party.

Adamu said the outcome of the exercise eroded his confidence in the leadership and processes of the party in Nasarawa State.

He explained that his decision to quit the ruling party followed extensive consultations with his supporters, political allies and family members, adding that he would now pursue his political aspirations elsewhere.

Despite his grievances, the former IGP expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of the party during his membership.

He also thanked party members at the ward, local government and state levels for the cooperation and relationships built over the years.
