The Rivers State Police Command has reaffirmed the restriction on the movement of tricycles (keke) from 10:00 p.m. across the state, warning operators to comply strictly with the directive.
In a press statement issued by the Command, the police said the enforcement forms part of efforts to curb “one-chance” robberies, abductions, and other violent crimes in Rivers State. The Command stated that the measure aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, psc, mnips, said the enforcement takes immediate effect and warned that anyone involved in criminal activities would be decisively dealt with according to the law.
The Command also announced new security measures effective May 18, 2026. These include a ban on commercial keke-buses fitted with tinted glass or coverings that conceal passengers’ identities. Any vehicle found in violation will be impounded, and the operator arrested and prosecuted.
The police further prohibited the concealment, alteration, or removal of vehicle plate numbers, stating that offenders will be arrested. The use of unregistered vehicles within the state was also banned, with owners advised to regularize their documentation.
The Command urged residents to collaborate with local security outfits and community leaders to enhance intelligence gathering and improve public safety.
It also advised members of the public to avoid boarding vehicles from isolated areas, refrain from entering suspicious or heavily tinted vehicles, share travel details with trusted persons, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police division or emergency lines.
The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
