The Presidency has clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, resigned from their positions and were not dismissed.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the State House said Edun tendered his resignation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing health concerns, ahead of the announcement of his replacement on Tuesday. The former minister, who turned 70 on Monday, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on his birthday and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote, noting that Nigeria had grown stronger and more resilient under the President’s leadership.

He also paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where both men held a closed-door meeting before Edun stepped aside to focus on his private business interests.

Similarly, Dangiwa resigned his position and thanked the President for the chance to serve in the Federal Executive Council. An architect by training, he previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and Secretary to the Katsina State Government before his appointment in August 2023.

The Presidency commended both former ministers for their contributions to the administration’s economic reform programme and wished them success in their future pursuits.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has tasked the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to sustain ongoing reforms and drive the government’s fiscal and economic agenda with discipline and innovation.

The President is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma for the housing portfolio to the Senate for confirmation.
