President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, for his infrastructural strides, describing his alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a major political boost in the North-East.
Speaking at a grand reception in Yola on Monday, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President said Fintiriβs move strengthens the partyβs chances ahead of future elections. He described the governor as a βvaluable political asset,β expressing confidence that his inclusion would enhance APCβs dominance in the region.
Tinubu noted that the administrationβs policies would continue to attract widespread support, adding that Fintiriβs leadership qualities align with the vision of the ruling party. He also affirmed that governors remain the leaders of the party in their respective states, urging unity among party stakeholders.
In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said Fintiriβs alignment had weakened the opposition and called on party members in Adamawa to rally behind him to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
Responding, Governor Fintiri clarified that his action was not a defection but an alliance with the Federal Government to support development initiatives. He said the decision was driven by the need to collaborate on policies aimed at advancing Nigeriaβs economic growth.
The event was attended by several political heavyweights, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the APC Governorsβ Forum, as well as governors from Yobe, Taraba, Kano, Jigawa, Gombe, and Zamfara states. Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau was also present.
The ceremony, initially scheduled for 10 a.m., commenced at about 3:35 p.m. following the late arrival of the Vice President.
