Victor Osimhen has issued a strong warning to Liverpool F.C. ahead of Tuesdayβs high-profile UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash, insisting that Galatasaray S.K. are fully prepared to battle the English giants in the intimidating atmosphere of Istanbul.
The Nigerian striker heads into the encounter in impressive form after scoring the decisive goal in Galatasarayβs 1β0 derby victory over BeΕiktaΕ J.K. on Saturday. His strike further underlined his importance to the Turkish champions as they push for success both domestically and in Europe.
Osimhen has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season, including seven in Europe, making him the attacking focal point of a Galatasaray side hoping to make a deep run in the Champions League.
Speaking ahead of Liverpoolβs visit to Turkey, the Nigerian international expressed pride in his team and confidence in their unity. According to him, the squad is motivated and determined to take the competition one game at a time.
He acknowledged Liverpoolβs quality but maintained that playing at home gives Galatasaray an advantage. Osimhen stressed that although Champions League matches are always difficult, the Turkish club is ready to fight for a positive result.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot also acknowledged the challenge posed by the striker after his sideβs recent 3β1 FA Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., noting the threat posed by Galatasarayβs attacking line.
Osimhen is also on the verge of making history for the Turkish side in the Champions League. With seven goals already in the competition this season, he is just one strike away from equalling the club record set by Burak YΔ±lmaz, who scored eight goals during the 2012β13 campaign.
The Nigerian forward is no stranger to Anfield either. During his time with SSC Napoli in 2022, he featured in a match at the famous ground where Napoli lost 2β0 to Liverpool, although the Italian side had earlier defeated the Reds 4β1 in the same campaign.
The second leg of the tie is scheduled to take place at Anfield on March 18, with both teams aiming to secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
