A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) Managing Director, Robert Orya, to a total of 490 years in prison for defrauding the bank of N2.4 billion.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured Oryaβs conviction on Thursday, February 5, 2026, after years of investigation and prosecution of alleged financial crimes during his tenure as NEXIM boss from 2011 to 2016.
Justice F.E. Messiri of the FCT High Court found Orya guilty on 49 separate counts, including fraud, abuse of office, misappropriation, and official corruption. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on each count, adding up to 490 years in total.
The EFCC noted that Orya allegedly exploited his position to siphon over N1.3 billion from the bank, and his conviction was handed down following his arraignment in November 2021.
