Police arrest two serving officers over alleged armed robbery

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two serving police officers in connection with an alleged armed robbery, leading to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and firearms.

Sources within the command disclosed that operatives of the surveillance patrol team acted on credible intelligence to intercept a red Toyota Corolla, 2010 model, with registration number NEG-35-AE, which had earlier been reported stolen at gunpoint in Akwanga and was being driven towards Keffi.

The suspects were said to have forcefully driven through a police checkpoint at Angwan Lambu but were subsequently trailed by security operatives and apprehended at a military checkpoint near Uke.

Police sources said items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle, three magazines loaded with 16 rounds of live ammunition, a black face mask, three mobile phones and other personal effects.

The suspects were later identified as Sgt. Shedrack Abednego, attached to the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, and Sgt. John Ayuba, attached to the CP Crack Squad, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.

The command said investigations were ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the suspectsโ€™ involvement and to determine whether they have links to other criminal activities.
