Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), supported by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Monday staged a protest at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, intensifying an ongoing total and indefinite strike over unresolved labour grievances.
The demonstration followed a directive by the NLC throwing its full weight behind the industrial action, which it described as a legitimate response to what it called sustained violations of workersβ rights by the FCTA management and political leadership.
Chanting solidarity songs, the protesters picketed the court premises, insisting that their demands had been ignored despite repeated engagements with authorities.
Placards displayed during the protest carried strong messages, including βWike must go!!β, βAbuja no be Riversβ, βPay promotion arrearsβ, βEnough is Enoughβ and βNo working toolsβ, reflecting growing anger among workers over welfare and administrative issues.
The workers accused the FCTA leadership of failing to address long-standing concerns such as unpaid promotion arrears, inadequate working tools and poor conditions of service.
Labour leaders present at the protest warned that the strike would continue indefinitely unless concrete steps were taken to resolve the disputes, stressing that workers would no longer tolerate what they described as neglect and insensitivity.
The picketing of the National Industrial Court marks a further escalation in the standoff between FCTA workers and the administration, as pressure mounts on authorities to intervene and avert a prolonged shutdown of services in the nationβs capital.
