Fubara Reaffirms Rivers’ Support for NYSC, Pledges Improved Camp Facilities

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and enhancing the welfare of corps members deployed to the state.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A, Stream I corps members posted to Rivers State. He was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba.

Governor Fubara noted that no nation can attain sustainable development without effectively harnessing the potential of its youths, whom he described as leaders of tomorrow. He assured the corps members of a conducive environment throughout their service year.

He further disclosed that the ongoing massive renovation and upgrading of facilities at the NYSC orientation camp would be completed in record time. According to him, additional infrastructure is also being put in place to accommodate the increasing number of corps members deployed to the state annually.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, commended Governor Fubara for approving the construction of a new 1,000-capacity hostel to accommodate both male and female corps members at the orientation camp.

Mr. Oleghe revealed that a total of 2,638 corps membersβ€”comprising 1,007 males and 1,631 femalesβ€”had so far completed their registration, while over 300 were still undergoing the registration process.

The oath of allegiance was administered to the corps members by Hon. Justice Chika Mini, who represented the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon. Justice Chibuzor Amadi.
