Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking along his large base of supporters.
The governor declared his move during a stakeholdersβ meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Fubara revealed that he visited the Presidential Villa on Monday to consult with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the visit was driven by the interest of Rivers State, not personal reasons.
He explained that he fully briefed the President on the political developments in the state and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would take necessary action.
According to him, the Presidentβs support is the only reason he remains in office, noting that without Tinubuβs intervention, he would have been out of power by now.
The governor stated that moving to the APC with his supporters was his way of showing gratitude and identifying with President Tinubu.
βWe have the full support and the positive nod to leave where we are, because we didnβt get any protection. The reason we are still standing is because of that place,β he said.
He added that the best way to appreciate the President is to stand with him completely, not partially.
βSo, we have taken that decision today, since we have got the pass. Everyone here who has followed and suffered with me β our decision today is that we are all moving to the APC,β he declared.
Governor Fubara further assured that he and his supporters will give President Tinubu unwavering backing.
βWe are the ones that will give that support, and we will give it with a loud voice, because we know that the people of Rivers State are with us,β he affirmed.
