The wife of the Rivers State Governor and RHI State Coordinator, Lady Valerie Fubara, on behalf of Nigeriaβs First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has presented special economic empowerment grants to 250 persons living with disabilities in Rivers State, as part of activities marking the 2025 World Disabilities Day.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Lady Fubara also launched the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Programme for persons living with disabilities, stressing that the support is designed to boost their livelihood and expand economic opportunities.
She noted that the initiative aims to ensure that beneficiaries meaningfully contribute to society by creating platforms that empower everyone, regardless of physical limitations. Lady Fubara revealed that in the last two years, the Renewed Hope Initiative has supported over 100,000 women petty traders, small business owners, and persons with disabilities with direct financial grants to grow their ventures.
Encouraging the beneficiaries, she urged them not to be weighed down by physical challenges but to creatively harness their abilities for personal development and societal impact.
Lady Fubara commended Nigeriaβs First Lady for championing inclusive policies. She eulogised Nigeria\'s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for being a compassionate mother of all especially in identifying with people living with disabilities and the elderly.
Delivering a presentation on βProtecting PLWDs Through Governor Siminalayi Fubaraβs Health for All Rivers Initiative,β Dr. Vetty Agala, Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), highlighted special healthcare policies put in place for persons living with disabilities. She also conferred the Universal Health Coverage Ambassador Award on Lady Valerie Fubara.
