Nigerian music mogul Don Jazzy opened up about his career journey, leadership philosophy, and the making of Africaβs biggest record label on the second episode of The Echo Podcast, hosted by consultant and global speaker Olushola Olaleye.
Describing his path as destiny rather than a choice, Don Jazzy said, βI didnβt find music; music found me.β Born into an artistic family, his father ran a production company and co-founded AMAN, while his mother was a choir singer, he developed skills in percussion, drums, and bass guitar from an early age.
However, Don Jazzy highlighted that discipline and financial responsibility were critical to his success. Reflecting on his early years, including a stint as a security guard in London, he explained, βIt started with showing up. The rest was alignment,β underscoring the importance of preparation before fully pursuing his dreams.
The podcast also explored a pivotal moment in his career: the split of MoβHits Records and the immediate founding of Mavin Records.
