General Christopher Musa is a seasoned senior military officer with more than three decades of experience in Nigeriaβs defence architecture. Commissioned into the Nigerian Army in 1991 as a Second Lieutenant, he has served in several key operational and strategic roles.
Before 2019, he held positions including Assistant Director of Operational Requirements at the Department of Army Policy and Plans, Commanding Officer of the 73 Battalion, and General Staff Officer 1 for Training/Operations at Headquarters 81 Division.
A recipient of the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering (2012), General Musa is recognized for exemplary military leadership and operational excellence. His career reflects extensive experience in high-stakes counter-insurgency operations, including leading multinational forces in the Lake Chad region.
He has been instrumental in strengthening Nigeriaβs defence posture through innovative training and operational strategies. His appointment as Chief of Defence Staff in 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu underscores the confidence in his strategic command capability and national security expertise.
General Musa now steps forward as Nigeriaβs Minister of Defence-designate, bringing deep operational insight and proven leadership to the countryβs defence and security framework.
