The Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment has inaugurated a 15-man Employment Monitoring and Compliance Committee as part of renewed efforts to expand job opportunities for young people across Rivers State.
The inauguration, performed by the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Chisom Kenneth Gbali (PhD, JP, FNES), marks a strategic step toward fulfilling the employment-focused directive of the State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Dr. Gbali described the Committee as the Ministryβs βhuman faceβ in the field, noting that its members were selected based on competence, credibility and the capacity to responsibly execute the Ministryβs mandate. He emphasized that the Governor has tasked the Ministry with actively exploring employment prospects across key sectors;including telecommunications, oil and gas and other industries to secure meaningful placements for Rivers youth.
He highlighted that the assignment requires professionalism and emotional maturity, especially when navigating sensitive engagements with companies or stakeholders.
The Commissioner charged the Committee with two core responsibilities:
1. Identifying companies with available job openings and facilitating the linkage of Rivers youth to these opportunities.
2. Monitoring company compliance with local content employment policies, ensuring that industries operating in the State prioritize Rivers people for job placements.
Responding on behalf of the Committee, Chairman Hon. Prince John Okorosa expressed appreciation to the Governor and the Commissioner for the confidence entrusted in them. He pledged the Committeeβs commitment to delivering measurable results within a short period.
The Committeeβs leadership also includes Edward Koko as Secretary and Mr. Akintola as Head of Enforcement.
