Tinubu Postpones Trips to G20 and AU–EU Summits, Orders Increased Security Deployment to Kwara

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive additional security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

Following a request from the Governor of Kwara State, the President has directed the immediate deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He further instructed security agencies to track down the bandits responsible for the attack on the church.

The President, who was expected to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU–EU Summit, suspended his travel plans due to growing security concerns.

President Tinubu is awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettimaβ€”who visited Kebbi on his behalfβ€”as well as from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services regarding the Kwara attack.

He reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to intensify efforts and ensure the safe rescue of the 24 abducted schoolgirls.
