The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a soldier attached to the 63 Brigade, Asaba, killed a suspected criminal in self-defence during a confrontation at the Delta Marine Logistics and Technical (DMLT) Estate in Warri, Delta State, on Monday, October 13, 2025.

According to a statement by Captain Iliayasu Bawa-Rijau, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the incident occurred when a group of individuals attempted to force their way into the estate without security clearance. One of them became violent, leading to a scuffle during which the soldier acted in self-defence, injuring the suspect who was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The Army said the police at Otu-Jeremi Division have been notified and urged residents to remain law-abiding and comply with security checks in accordance with standard operating procedures.
