The Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eugene Epelle, has vowed to ensure justice for a young woman whose body was recovered from a stream in Ogoda Community.
Epelle, who led security operatives and other officials to the community on September 19, condemned the killing and pledged to support efforts to identify and prosecute those responsible.
The traditional ruler of Ogoda, Chief Obutu Tom, said he received information on September 12 that the woman had allegedly been abducted from Ahoada Minta in neighbouring Ahoada East and taken to Ogoda, where she was reportedly killed.
According to him, he reported the incident to the police, prompting security agencies and community members to begin efforts to locate the victim and recover her body from the stream.
Two suspects have reportedly been arrested and are currently in police custody in connection with the incident.
Epelle said the council would work with the police and other security agencies to ensure that the investigation was pursued to its logical conclusion and that anyone found responsible faced prosecution.
He also assured residents that security remained a top priority of his administration and urged them to promptly report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
