A man identified as Ibrahim Jadda has allegedly been stabbed to death by his friend, Sallau, following a disagreement at their workplace along Gombe Road in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday at the car wash where the two men worked together.
A source familiar with the incident said the friends had engaged in a heated political argument on Wednesday before their colleagues intervened and separated them to prevent the dispute from escalating into a fight.
The source added that the disagreement disrupted their usual end-of-day stocktaking and sharing of profits, a development that allegedly angered Sallau.
On Thursday morning, Jadda reportedly arrived at the workplace before his colleague and entered their cubicle to change his clothes and prepare for the day's activities.
Sallau arrived a few minutes later and joined him in the cubicle. Although Jadda reportedly greeted him, Sallau allegedly ignored the greeting before drawing a dagger and stabbing him in the chest.
A worker at a neighbouring car wash said the suspect allegedly locked the cubicle after the attack and fled the scene without attracting attention.
The source said colleagues and other workers became concerned when the car wash remained closed despite customers waiting for service and neither of the two men appearing for work.
Their suspicions prompted some people to approach the cubicle, only to discover that it was locked.
After forcing the door open, they reportedly found Jadda lying in a pool of blood and barely alive.
He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) after the police were notified, but he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The suspect reportedly fled after the incident but was later traced to Liman Katagum in Bauchi Local Government Area, where police arrested him. He is said to be in detention.
Efforts to obtain an official comment from the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, did not respond to a text message sent to his phone. His telephone number was also unreachable when called as of the time of filing this report.
