Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the reported death of actor Chijioke Nwokafor, popularly known as CJay Nwoks.
The actor reportedly died on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at an undisclosed hospital in the Badore area of Lagos State.
His death comes less than two weeks after the passing of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, whose death at the age of 84 was announced by his family on September 16.
Jacobs, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors, enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades across theatre, television and film.
CJay’s death was announced by actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday, who had recently featured him as the lead actor in a new movie scheduled for release on Wednesday.
In an emotional video posted on Instagram, the actress broke down while announcing that the planned release of the movie had been cancelled following the actor’s death.
“It took me a lot to do this video because we won’t be dropping the movie again by 5pm,” she said.
“Right now, I’m in the hospital in Badore. I just lost CJay. CJay is dead. I don’t even know where to start.”
The news reportedly shocked his colleagues and members of the production team, who had been preparing for the movie’s release.
Several actors and other industry figures have since expressed grief over the actor’s reported passing, paying tribute to him and mourning the latest loss to the Nigerian film industry.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the circumstances and cause of CJay Nwoks’ death had not been made public.
