Troops of Sector 1, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have foiled an alleged kidnapping attempt at the residence of the late Gen. Bagudos in Jebbu Bassa, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on September 9, following a distress report of an attempted abduction at the residence.
Responding swiftly, troops supported by personnel of the 3 Division Garrison and Keystone Bassa Division moved to the location and disrupted the operation.
The suspected kidnappers reportedly fled the area on sighting the security personnel, abandoning their mission.
A military source said one of the suspects was later arrested and is currently being interrogated by security authorities.
The suspect is expected to provide information that could assist troops in identifying and apprehending other members of the fleeing group.
Security forces have since intensified operations in the area, including efforts to track down the remaining suspects and prevent further attacks.
The military said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to safeguard communities and protect residents from kidnapping and other criminal activities in Plateau State.
