Late Chief Albert Kurubo Horsfall

Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall, former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), pioneer Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and former Chairman of the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC), has died.

Horsfall, an illustrious son of Rivers State and one of Nigeria’s prominent intelligence and public service figures, died peacefully after a life dedicated to public service, family and community.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by his son, Chief Donald Albert Horsfall, on behalf of the family.

The family described the deceased as a distinguished public servant, statesman, administrator and elder statesman who made significant contributions to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria.

According to the statement, Chief Horsfall served the nation with dedication, integrity and patriotism, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, wisdom and selfless service.

The family also described him as one of the founding fathers of Rivers State, noting that his counsel, courage and commitment to justice, peace and good governance earned him the respect of generations of leaders and citizens.

“While the family mourns this irreparable loss, we take comfort in the extraordinary life he lived and the indelible mark he left on the sands of time,” the statement said.

It added that his memory would continue to inspire those who knew him and benefited from his wealth of knowledge, experience and compassion.

Horsfall’s death marks the loss of a major figure in Nigeria’s security, intelligence and public administration history.

During his distinguished career, he occupied strategic positions at the highest levels of Nigeria’s security and intelligence architecture, including heading the SSS and serving as the pioneer Director-General of the NIA.

He also served as Chairman of OMPADEC, where he was involved in efforts to address development challenges in Nigeria’s oil-producing communities.

The Horsfall family said details of his funeral arrangements and other activities would be announced in due course.

The family prayed that the deceased’s “gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
