The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect following the team's failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The decision was announced by the NFF Executive Committee in a brief statement issued on Monday.
"The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect," the federation stated.
Although the NFF did not give reasons for the decision, it follows a disappointing campaign by the nine-time African champions, who failed to secure an automatic World Cup ticket after crashing out in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Nigeria's campaign got off to a poor start with a surprise defeat to tournament debutants Malawi in their Group C opener. Malawi went on to reach the final but lost to Cameroon, who claimed their first-ever WAFCON title on Sunday.
The Super Falcons' quarter-final defeat to Cameroon ended their hopes of automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The team was handed another opportunity to qualify through a playoff against South Africa but suffered another defeat, leaving Nigeria without a World Cup ticket for now.
The outgoing technical crew was led by Head Coach Justin Madugu, alongside assistant coaches and other backroom staff.
Madugu and Edwin Okon were appointed to the Super Falcons' technical crew by the NFF in November 2021 as part of efforts to strengthen the team's coaching setup.
The latest development comes months after the Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, missing out after losing 4-3 on penalties to DR Congo in the African playoff final following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
The NFF is yet to announce a replacement for the Super Falcons' technical crew or outline its plans for the team's rebuilding process ahead of future international competitions.
