The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to embrace proactive, intelligence-led policing strategies to effectively combat the country\'s growing security threats.
Disu gave the directive during the monthly strategic conference of senior police officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting brought together Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police and other top officers to assess the nation\'s security situation and review ongoing operational efforts.
Addressing participants, the police chief identified kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder clashes and cybercrime as major security concerns requiring innovative and coordinated responses. He stressed the need for effective leadership, improved collaboration and adaptive policing tactics to stay ahead of criminal networks.
Highlighting achievements recorded since the last conference in May, Disu disclosed that police operatives arrested eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects and 42 suspected cultists during operations across the country.
He further revealed that the Force rescued 88 kidnapped victims and recovered 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition and 28 stolen vehicles from criminal elements in various parts of the country.
The IGP commended officers for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to sustain the momentum in the fight against crime while enhancing public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force through effective service delivery and protection of lives and property.
