The Zamfara State Government has sponsored a mass wedding for 100 couples drawn from vulnerable groups across the state’s 14 local government areas.
Governor Dauda Lawal said the initiative underscores his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of disadvantaged citizens through targeted social interventions.
Represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Governor, Mani Mummune, the governor reiterated the government’s resolve to uplift the less privileged and promote social stability.
Mummune, who stood in for the grooms during the event, announced that the state government paid a dowry of N200,000 for each bride. He also disclosed that every bride received N50,000 as startup support for small-scale businesses in their new homes.
The Emir of Kaura Namoda represented the brides, formally handing them over in marriage to their husbands.
Governor Lawal also presented marriage certificates and essential household items to the couples, urging them to uphold mutual respect and peaceful coexistence in their unions.
He advised the newlyweds to build harmonious homes capable of attracting divine blessings.
In addition, senior government officials donated a total of N5 million to support the couples as they begin married life.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Hisbah Commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan, commended the administration for constructing permanent offices for the commission in all local government areas, noting that the move would enhance its operations and service delivery across the state.
