The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso, has led Nigeria’s delegation to the Committee of Governors meeting held in Monrovia, Liberia.

The Nigerian delegation also included the CBN Deputy Governor in charge of Economic Policy, Dr Muhammad Sani Abdullahi.

The meeting was part of ongoing statutory engagements involving regional institutions, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), and the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM).

According to a post on the verified social media handles of the CBN,  the meeting, centred deliberations on advancing discussions toward the proposed single currency for West Africa, as monetary authorities from member states reviewed progress on macroeconomic convergence, regional financial stability, and broader economic integration.

The talks underscore continued efforts by ECOWAS institutions and central banks to strengthen cooperation and lay the groundwork for deeper monetary integration across the sub-region.
