The Kogi State Government has explained that the temporary closure of schools across the state was a precautionary step taken to protect lives, following credible security intelligence.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Femi Fanwo, stated this on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Lokoja. He said the decision was guided by responsibility and foresight, not fear, as the government opted to act early rather than respond to a crisis after it had occurred.

Fanwo noted that intelligence reports necessitated the immediate strengthening of security around schools to ensure the safety of pupils, students and teachers.

He disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed all relevant security and education agencies to put protective measures in place to enable schools to reopen as soon as conditions are considered safe, in order to minimise disruption to the academic calendar.

The commissioner commended security agencies for their prompt and actionable intelligence, describing their collaboration with the state government as evidence of a functional and proactive security framework.

He assured residents that the government is firmly in control of the situation, adding that security operatives are intensifying efforts to track down and dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.

According to Fanwo, the Ododo administration remains unwavering in its commitment to the safety of lives and property, stressing that the protection of children and education facilities will always remain a top priority.
