The Anambra State Government has directed all schools in the state to resume full academic activities on Mondays, warning that any school that fails to comply will be shut down.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the directive in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She said a circular conveying the order had been dispatched to all school authorities, explaining that the directive covers public, private, mission and returned schools across the state.
The commissioner noted that the instruction was issued at the instance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo as part of efforts to end the sit-at-home disruption affecting schools, markets and businesses in Anambra.
She warned that any school found closed on Mondays would face immediate closure by the government.
The development follows an earlier executive order by the state government abolishing Monday sit-at-home activities. The government had also cautioned that teachers and non-teaching staff who fail to report to work on Mondays risk salary deductions or outright forfeiture.
