In a grim moment captured on video, American conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, during a campus event at Utah Valley University. The tragedy struck while Kirk was engaging students under a tent set up for his “American Comeback Tour” in Orem, Utah, prompting shock across the U.S. political landscape—especially within Nigeria’s politically aware press.

Eyewitnesses described how Kirk was addressing a student question when the loud crack of a gunshot rang out. Blood could be seen pouring from his neck as he collapsed at the “Prove Me Wrong” debate table, and the crowd immediately panicked and fled the scene. 

Turning Point USA later confirmed the worst: Kirk did not survive the attack. President Donald Trump, a longtime ally, confirmed his death on Truth Social, calling Kirk “legendary” and urging prayers for his family. 

Earlier reports suggested a suspect had been taken into custody. However, Utah Valley University later clarified that no one was currently detained in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. 

Kirk, 31, was a fiery figure in right-wing youth mobilization. He founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and was widely credited with energizing young conservative voters. His death stirs renewed concern over political violence, prompting responses from both ends of the political spectrum condemning the attack.
